Boat ride on the Danube Delta

Our boat travells through Europe’s second-largest delta through a series of channels and lakes that cannot be reached by larger boats. We were lucky to be the lead boat in a flotilla of ten boats, giving us an excellent view of the delta channels. This UNESCO Biosphere Reserve has a wild landscape and diversity of habitats that attract many species of birds.

The Danube Delta, near the Black Sea, is the best preserved on the continent. The greater part of the Danube Delta lies in Romania, with a small part in Ukraine. Its approximate surface area is 4,152 km2 (1,603 sq miles).

Reed plants and floating reed islands are the most common and well-known components of the Danube Delta. The vegetation of this ecosystem consists of the common reed and, on near river banks, mace reed.
