Godshill Model Village Isle of Wight

The Model Village is situated on the High Street in Godshill, on the grounds of the Old Vicarage. It depicts the Godshill village as it was in the 1950s. It includes a great miniature railway in G scale.

The Model Village is an unexpected place to find a huge collection of conifers and trees but they have created a large collection of niwaki and cloud pruned specimens. Over the years they have gathered over 3,000 trees and shrubs to create their display. As with the Japanese tradition they have concentrated on using a chosen range of trees and sculpting them individually, for maximum effect, to create the right atmosphere to offset the models. They buy in small specimens and then their Gardener Fred will plant, prune and shape them as they grow. Some of their trees are over 40 years old and have been shaped to retain their scale to the model houses. The garden is unique on the Island providing inspiration for the novice gardener and envy for the expert.
